Pornography, whether perceived as a tendency, a common practice, or even normalized, is in reality a display of socially reprehensible behaviors. These are actions that most people would not feel comfortable viewing in public spaces or within society at large. The word “pornography” itself emphasizes a form of behavior that is not social; it is not a behavior that is accepted within the social fabric.
I am not denying the existence of human instinct; even Islam, which has strict boundaries regarding sexual matters, emphasizes the need for regulation and satisfaction of this instinct. However, what is unacceptable is the open dissemination of this instinct through images and scenarios that are culturally or socially inappropriate. Such content might find acceptance in certain Western cultures, but even those promoting it have not fully convinced themselves of its legitimacy. In our Eastern societies, these topics are socially and religiously taboo, and restrictions are imposed by religious texts. Thus, its production and distribution are illegal.
The common scenarios in most pornography platforms not only go against ethical standards but also portray illegal actions such as rape, engaging with minors, incest, infidelity, and unequal relationships in educational or work environments (e.g., teacher-student, boss-employee, etc.). The question here is: are these actions legally permissible in any country? If the answer is “no” (and it surely is), then why are these behaviors portrayed and normalized in these platforms? This is a crime!
In such circumstances, the global community cannot remain indifferent to the future of its generations. Universities, churches, mosques, non-governmental organizations, and schools all have a responsibility. If we do not act now, we will lose a generation whose innocence will be burned away by greed and negligence.
✅ Creation of a Global Coalition: A Necessary Step to Protect Human Dignity
In a world where international organizations are established to combat terrorism, human trafficking, arms trade, and drugs, there is a pressing need for an international organization to combat pornography. The pornography industry, with its immense financial power and widespread influence in media and culture, has become one of the most dangerous factors threatening mental health, family integrity, and social security.
Therefore, there is an urgent need to establish an independent and effective international organization to combat pornography. This organization could follow the example of UNESCO in the field of culture or the World Health Organization in the area of health. It would:
-
Provide global policy frameworks;
-
Conduct fundamental research on the psychological, social, and cultural consequences of pornography;
-
Design and distribute global educational programs on media and sexual literacy;
-
Coordinate legal and executive actions in collaboration with governments and NGOs;
-
Provide support to victims and help rehabilitate them.
This organization should serve as a platform for creating a global alliance of governments, religious institutions, universities, social activists, health professionals, and NGOs. Most importantly, this movement must start in the very region that plays a major role in the production and promotion of this content—namely, Western countries. Only through a cultural and intellectual shift in Western societies can we expect this change to spread to other parts of the world.
Pornography is not an industry; it is a form of psychological and moral narcotic that harms people more than drugs because it affects the soul, identity, and psyche of humans. If we do not act today, we will have to answer to a generation that has been lost in the illusions of false pleasure and a misguided notion of freedom.
